Pointe Break Retreats will be running our luxury surf, dance and wellness retreat in Portugal! Guests will be spoiled with the quaint country side charm, the most beautiful beaches in the world, organic cuisine to die for, day trips to Lisbon and surrounding towns and wine tours. This is going to be a balanced week of activity, culture, adventure, rejuvenation and exploration. Keeping up with the pulse of the hottest travel and surf destinations, this area of Portugal is a must do experience.
The region of Portugal boosts some of the worlds most beautiful and pristine beaches. Picturesquely draped across sandstone cliffs above the blue Atlantic, sunny, whitewashed Columbeira is popular with travellers wanting to remove themselves from city life and dive into natural beauty and culture. It’s equally renowned for spectacular ocean vistas and excellent seafood restaurants and is also a mecca for surfers, who come here for the great waves and camaraderie. Equally beautiful are the rolling hills and native farm lands where sheep make their daily strolls to the sounds of their own bells. Surrounded by wineries and flower garden galore, this area offers world class hiking trails as well.
We will be exploring Portugals most prized city of Lisbon as well. Lisbon is made of even cinematic hillsides overlooking the Rio Tejo cradle Lisbon’s postcard-perfect panorama of cobbled alleyways, ancient ruins and white-domed cathedrals – a captivating recipe crafted over centuries. Lisbon is a foodies dream come true. Dining in Lisbon is far more dynamic than navigating countless preparations of Portugal’s beloved bacalhau (dried and salted cod fish; 365 recipes and counting!). While bacalhau à Brás(shredded cod with onions, eggs and potatoes; a Bairro Alto original) is never far, Lisbon’s strategic seaside position on Europe’s doorstep means a bounty of fresh seafood (octopus, tuna, monkfish, shrimp, sardines, clams, snails) rules the city’s kitchens, from Michelin-starred restaurants to gourmet-food markets to countless corner tascas (taverns). Top-grade Alentejan beef beckons with juicy steaks and gourmet burgers; and you’ll find everything from tantalizing Indian curries to authentic Moroccan couscous in-between. We can’t wait to dive in to the food and charming cobble neighbourhoods like Alfama (pictured below).
Besides surfing and dancing, we love healthy and yummy food. Our retreats begin with a healthy and energizing breakfast in the morning and end with everyone enjoying dinner together in the evening. We prepare most of our meals with ingredients out of our own veggie garden and buy fresh produce from the local markets.
Surf & Dance & Yoga Classes: Portugal and in particular the coast around Ericeira, Peniche and Baleal offer some of the best conditions for surfing, regardless if you are a beginner or want to improve your surfing.
